Axalta, a Pennsylvania-based supplier of liquid and powder coatings, recently committed to a 50 percent absolute reduction of Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030.

The goal is to become completely carbon neutral by 2040, a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change deadline.

“Today, we are coupling our commitment to technology, innovation, and people first with our commitment to building a more sustainable future,” Robert Bryant, Axalta president and CEO, said. “Our new goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 enables us to lead our industry by example and to inspire our customers as we work to ensure the long-term well-being of our planet, our partners, and our business.”

To reach its goal, the company established 10 sustainability commitments.

Axalta established the goals after conducting an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) materiality assessment with stakeholders. It also worked with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to develop an ESG framework structured around three pillars.

The pillars are planet solutions, business solutions, and people solutions.

Solutions will focus on reducing the impact of global operations, fostering an environment where all people can thrive, and products that help customers accelerate their own sustainability initiatives and achievements.
