Danish artificial turf manufacturer opens Luzerne County facility

Re-Match, a Danish recycler of synthetic turf fields, recently leased a 53,040-square-feet building Hanover Township, Luzerne County, to establish its first recycling facilities outside Europe.

The company plans to invest nearly $12.2 million to add 67,400-square-feet and convert the vacant structure from an office building into a state-of-the-art recycling facility. The project is expected to create approximately 40 full-time jobs over the next three years.

The facility will be able to process more than 60.000 tons of waste and save the environment from up to 100.000 tons of carbon dioxide annually compared to the turf being incinerated. The company has factories in the Netherlands and France, and the Luzerne facility will use the same template.

“With the location in Luzerne County we will be able to offer sustainable recycling of to an area with a high concentration of artificial turf fields – and I am happy to take this next step on our journey towards establishing 24 Re-Match factories across the world,” Nikolaj Magne Larsen, Re-Match CEO, said.

The Department of Community and Economic Development submitted a funding proposal for a $25,000 work force development grant to help the company train workers, a $148,000 Pennsylvania First grant, and a $1.85 million Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority loan.
