Adler Industrial Solutions, a Nebraska-based startup with the goal of acquiring a network of geographically distributed niche tool and die companies, recently purchased Saegertown-based Shorts Tool and Mfg.

The purchase allows Adler to establish a presence in western Pennsylvania. The company believes the area is an important center of American manufacturing.

“Shorts is an excellent first transaction for Adler to build upon because it already has a world-class workforce and customer base,” Philipp Gruner, Adler CEO, said. “Our workforce will only be made more efficient with our planned investments in improved machinery, tools, software and processes. This will, in turn, allow us to serve customers even better.”

Shorts manufactures close-tolerance and multicavity plastic injection molds and ancillary products used primarily in the aerospace, consumer goods, industrial, and medical industries.

Kevin Shorts, the company’s former owner, had been seeking a buyer. Adler will take Shorts to the next level, he said.

Shorts will benefit from the acquisition by having the ability to grow with its customers, investing more heavily in state-of-the-art machinery and improved software tools.

Adler is investing in the tooling and mold industry by building a network of companies with complementary capabilities.

Gruner previously owned and operated KG Technologies, an electromechanical relays company.
