Pennsylvania American Water building new Turbotville plant

Pennsylvania American Water, the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, recently announced it has begun construction of a new wastewater treatment plant to replace the current Turbotville Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The project will cost approximately $8.7 million and is scheduled to be completed in late 2022.

“The existing wastewater treatment plant was in poor condition when we acquired the system and has reached the end of its useful life,” Ewoud Hulstein, Pennsylvania American Water engineering project manager, said. “Currently, the plant cannot handle high wet weather flows adequately.”

The new, continuous flow biological treatment system plant is being constructed Monday through Friday on the facility’s existing property, and service to customers will not be impacted.

Once completed, the new plant will be capable of handling high flows. Ultraviolet treatment and step aeration will meet effluent water quality standards.

The existing plant will be demolished once the new plant is in service.
