Arconic Publishes 2020 Sustainability Report

Pittsburgh-based Arconic Corporation announced it is continuing its path towards sustainability, as evidenced by its release of its 2020 Sustainability and Environmental, Social and Governance Report Thursday.

The company reported that it continued to decrease carbon emissions, energy consumption, freshwater use, and landfill waste while maintaining a safe and diverse workplace.

“As you read through our 2020 Sustainability and ESG Report, you will recognize that advancing the health and safety of our employees, the environment, and communities where we operate are critical priorities of Arconic,” said Chief Executive Officer Tim Myers. “We are committed to living our values, cultivating an inclusive and diverse culture that advocates for social equity, and conducting business ethically and with integrity so that we can continue to grow and deliver sustainable value to our key stakeholders.”

According to the report, Arconic saw a 23 percent decrease in its total recordable safety incidents and a 3.5 percent decrease in days away, restricted work, or transfers. Additionally, the company decreased its greenhouse gas emissions by 13.8 percent over 2019, decreased its energy consumption by 11.9 percent, and decreased its freshwater withdrawal by 8 percent. Landfill waste fell by 6.5 percent, the company said.

In terms of inclusion, diversity, and social equity, the company noted that 37.5 percent of its executives are female, and 21.2 percent of its U.S. employees are minorities. The company also said it gave $7.1 million to nonprofit and community organizations in eight countries and achieved a perfect score of 100 from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index.
