State nearly ready to launch new unemployment benefits system

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) will soon launch an updated Unemployment Compensation (UC) system.

The old system will be offline for several days to transfer information between the systems, but most people will still be able to file their biweekly claims. The transition will occur from May 30 through June 7.

“Only a small portion of claimants are anticipated to be impacted by the offline period,” Acting L&I Secretary Jennifer Berrier said. “Teams of IT and UC experts continue working to tighten the offline timeframe and conduct intensive end-to-end testing at critical stages in the process to ensure as smooth a transition as possible.”

The new UC system will offer a modern interface and will be mobile and tablet-friendly. In addition, it will streamline the unemployment claim filing process and provide faster access to relevant information.

When the system is offline, it will be offline for claimants and L&I staff, but the UC Service Center will be available via telephone and email. Staff will try to minimize any delays to the filing calendar and deal with issues as they occur.

Going offline during data migration ensures the new UC system will function correctly.

The transition is expected to be complete, with the system going “live” on June 8.
