The Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) recently invested $1.3 million in programs statewide that provide computer skills training to job seekers.
Funding is provided through Digital Literacy and Workforce Development Grants. Each program received a maximum of $45,000 to teach people digital literacy skills such as searching and applying for online jobs, uploading and submitting a résumé via email, and developing and maintaining a professional profile on networking sites.
Grants are federally funded by the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Statewide Activity.
“Pennsylvania employers need workers with the skills to navigate the new economy emerging in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic,” Acting L&I Secretary Jennifer Berrier said. “The Digital Literacy and Workforce Development Grants will help ensure that workers develop the basic digital skills they need to succeed when applying for jobs and performing essential job duties that will be required of them in their new career.”
Project recipients include:
The Literacy Council of Lancaster-Lebanon in Lebanon County received $45,000 for its Digital Literacy for Employment Success project. Adults receive instruction and practice on digital fundamentals.
The Berks Latino Workforce Development Corp. in Berks County received $45,000 for a project offering English and Spanish adult basic education and occupational training.
