Packaging manufacturer expanding operations in Pennsylvania

Sharp, a clinical supply chain services and contract pharmaceutical packaging company, recently announced it will expand operations at existing facilities in Allentown and Conshohocken and construct a new facility in Lehigh County.

Sharp will invest $42.9 million across the three locations.

The four-facility Allentown campus will be partially re-purposed and upgraded. This is expected to increase its manufacturing capacity.

The two-facility Conshohocken site also will be upgraded and will receive new machinery and equipment.

The company purchased a 170,000- square-foot facility in Macungie Borough. It plans to renovate the building and add machinery and equipment.

The project is expected to creating 335 new, full-time jobs over the next three years and retain 1,092 current positions.

“Sharp has a long history and a proven commitment to the Lehigh Valley area and to our site in Conshohocken, and as this investment demonstrates, we will continue to offer career opportunities and skills training within our local communities, as our employees deliver vital packaging services for our pharmaceutical clients,” Sharp President Kevin Orfan said.

Sharp is part of UDG Healthcare plc and has facilities in the United Kingdom, Belgium, and the Netherlands and more than 32 clinical depots worldwide.

The Department of Community and Economic Development submitted a funding proposal for a $1.25 million Pennsylvania First grant, a $140,400 workforce development grant, and $670,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits.
