Twenty-nine student research projects at 15 universities statewide recently were approved for nearly $2 million in Manufacturing PA initiative grants. The projects will advance innovation in several sectors of manufacturing.
The projects are part of Manufacturing PA’s fellowship program. Under the program, graduate and undergraduate students are paired with local manufacturers for research projects to develop new technologies and advance innovation. Universities partnered with a manufacturer are eligible to receive between $25,000 and $70,000.
The program is a collaboration of the state’s seven research institutions, manufacturers, and industrial resource centers.
The universities receiving grants are Carnegie Mellon University; Drexel University; Gannon University; Lehigh University; Pennsylvania State University – Altoona; Pennsylvania State University – Behrend; Pennsylvania State University – DuBois; Robert Morris University; Temple University; Thomas Jefferson University; University of Pennsylvania; University of Pittsburgh; Villanova University; Widener University; and York College of Pennsylvania.
“Pennsylvania’s manufacturing industry continues to grow and advance with new technologies and practices, despite the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic posed for us all, and this funding provides support to innovative projects from our state’s higher education system in collaboration with local manufacturers,” Gov. Tom Wolf said.
The Manufacturing PA initiative fosters collaboration and partnerships to accelerate technological advancement, encourage innovation and commercialization, and build a modern workforce.
