SAP aims to be carbon neutral by 2023

SAP SE, a German multinational software corporation with its North American headquarters in Newtown Square, recently announced it aims to make its operations carbon neutral by the end of 2023, two years ahead of schedule.

In 2020, the company’s 100,000 employees changed how they worked and traveled in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The majority of employees worked from home, so the company reduced net carbon emissions by 43 percent more than expected.

SAP began using 100 percent renewable energy to power its data centers in 2014. The following year, it supported the United Nations General Assembly’s Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on the goal related to climate action.

The company offers the Climate 21 program, which helps its more than 400,000 global customers implement climate protection measures.

SAP has also been pursuing a science-based climate target certified by the Science Based Targets initiative since 2017. This target includes its own operations and the upstream and downstream value chain.

The company’s announcement that it is ahead of its goals coincided with the publication of SAP’s Integrated Report 2020.

On April 28- 29, SAP will host a virtual SAP Sustainability Summit. During the summit, it will provide more information on holistic steering and the circular economy.
