Pittsburgh-area life science companies form partnerships

LifeX Labs, a Pittsburgh life sciences startups, and Pittsburgh Life Science Greenhouse (PLSG), a life sciences economic development organization, recently formed a strategic alliance to accelerate industry growth.

The companies will provide networking opportunities for early-stage life science companies throughout southwestern Pennsylvania, company acceleration activities, and educational programming resources to accomplish their goal.

Innovators will have a one-stop-shop for everything they need to advance their endeavors, the partners said, from the laboratory development stage to the commercialization of products.

The partnership will also assist financial and industry organizations that want to explore the region’s early-stage ecosystem.

The R.K. Mellon Foundation and the Henry L. Hillman Foundation provided financial support to streamline support for regional startups and LifeX Labs’ mission.

“In the forty years since, that industry has created millions of American jobs, a multitude of new technologies, and countless lifesaving drugs that have helped individuals living with Covid-19, cancer, diabetes, and other diseases live longer, healthier lives,” Sam Reiman, Richard King Mellon Foundation director, said. “As this recent pandemic has demonstrated, the 21st century will be defined by advances in the life sciences. The foundation’s support will help Pittsburgh and its entrepreneurs lead that future.”

PLSG will co-locate its offices in the LifeX Labs’ Southside facility.
