The Federal Susan Harwood Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently awarded the Manufacturers’ Association a $147,000 training grant focusing on warehouse hazards.

Funding will support warehouse safety in central and south central Pennsylvania by training employers and employees on how to recognize serious workplace hazards. The focus will be on manufacturers and warehouse facilities, especially those that are classified as small businesses.

Training will include understanding rights and responsibilities under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, implementing injury prevention measures, forklift safety, ergonomics, and preventing slips, trips, and falls.

Training will be provided in English and Spanish for free.

“Safety of employees is a priority for the regional industrial base, and these training funds will transfer the best practices and procedures to the workforce – reducing lost work hours or possible injuries,” Tom Palisin, association executive director, said.

Training dates and locations will soon be scheduled. In addition to the association’s locations, manufacturers and warehouses can host training sessions at their facilities.

The Manufacturers’ Association is a central Pennsylvania nonprofit organization. It offers professional human resources and search services, apprenticeships, networking events, health insurance, technical trades training, and other services.

The association has provided training programs for thousands of manufacturing employees.
