Ansys purchases rival simulation software company

Ansys, an engineering simulation software company headquartered south of Pittsburgh, recently purchased Analytical Graphics (AGI), a mission-driven simulation, modeling, testing, and analysis software company for aerospace, defense, and intelligence applications, for $700 million.

“Ansys’ acquisition of AGI will help drive our strategy of making simulation pervasive from the smallest component now through a customer’s entire mission,” Ajei Gopal, Ansys president and CEO, said. “It will also expand the use of simulation in the key aerospace sector, where the stakes can be at their highest levels. We are excited to welcome the expert AGI team – and to expand the reach of their world-class technology to industries outside of aerospace, including for autonomy and 5G applications.”

Based in Exton, AGI pioneered digital mission engineering, a key component of digital transformation. The technology allows organizations to evaluate and optimize the performance of engineered systems across an overall mission.

Missions typically involve space, telecommunications, national defense, and search-and-rescue initiatives.

The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter, pending regulatory approval and closing conditions.

Once closed, Ansys will have the ability to offer aerospace and defense customers an expanded selection of simulation software that will help them solve challenges throughout an entire mission.
