The Pennsylvania state House passed a resolution Tuesday that would designate October as “Careers in Construction Month” in Pennsylvania.

The purpose of House Resolution 1038 is to increase public awareness about the opportunities available in the construction-trade professions.

“Recognizing our careers in construction this month is a great way to recognize and highlight one of our state’s largest industries,” state Rep. Todd Polinchock (R-Bucks), who authored the measure, said. “Our construction industry is filled with a number of great opportunities for those interested in pursuing the career, although the industry is still facing employment deficits.”

Nationwide, more than 5 million people are employed in the construction trades.

The resolution encourages employers, professional associations, and schools to conduct job fairs, panel discussions, and local community events during October. The goal of these events is to inform students about the employment opportunities available in the construction industry.

“I am so thankful for all those employed in the construction industry, they work to make our lives easier. This is the least we could do to show our appreciation for their hard work,” Polinchock said.

The Home Builders Association of Bucks & Montgomery Counties inspired the resolution, Polinchock said.
