Vice President Mike Pence and U.S. Rep. John Joyce (R-PA) visited Guy Chemical Co. in Somerset on Thursday to speak about the nation’s economic recovery from the coronavirus crisis.

“It was a privilege to welcome Vice President Pence back to Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District today as we look ahead to America’s recovery from the coronavirus crisis,” Joyce said. “The hardworking people of Pennsylvania are eager to get safely back to work and achieve a Great American Comeback. Small businesses like Guy Chemical are not only the backbone of our economy, they are the heart of our community. Thanks to our highly skilled and dedicated workforce, Pennsylvania is a great place to build a business. Now more than ever, it’s critical that we bring the manufacturing of chemicals, technology, and medical supplies home to America – and away from the Chinese Communist Party.”

Prior to Pence’s visit, Joyce participated in a roundtable discussion along with Bruce Contino, Guy Chemical vice president, and David Taylor, Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association president and CEO.

The roundtable focused on the state’s small businesses and workforce. Joyce discussed how to beat China in regards to technological innovation and how to restore the country’s competitiveness.

Pence and Joyce also toured Manitowoc Crane Co. in Franklin County in 2019.
