Infrastructure projects receive more than $30M in funding

Twenty-seven highway, bridge, transit, and bike and pedestrian projects in 23 counties recently received $30.2 million in Multimodal Transportation Fund funding.

Many of the projects involve the repair or replacement of bridges and roads.

“Whether we’re making roadways more accessible to all modes of travel or creating new connections for businesses investing in our communities, transportation is integral to our quality of life,” Yassmin Gramian, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) secretary, said. “These projects will bring long-lasting improvements across the state.”

PennDOT selected projects based on several criteria, including regional economic conditions, operational sustainability, technical and financial feasibility, energy efficiency, safety benefits, and job creation.

Among the groups receiving funding are:

Air Products in Lehigh County received $372,281 for roadway improvements at the intersection of Mill Creek and Grange Roads. The project will help the area accommodate Air Products’ new global headquarters.

Harrison Township in Allegheny County received $3 million for improvements to the intersection of Route 366 and Pleasant Avenue. Funding will be used for signalization, constructing a new left turn lane to serve traffic destined for Pleasant Avenue; separating the bypass ramp from the intersection by constructing a barrier from the new traffic signal; constructing a new turning lane northbound off of Route 28; and extending the northbound ramp through the intersection.
