The Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI) recently certified Alcoa Corp. to market products under ASI’s Chain of Custody standard. Certification means a company’s performance standards have independent, third-party validation and traceability of responsible production, sourcing, and stewardship of aluminum.
“The certifications to the ASI Performance and Chain of Custody standards will offer our customers additional assurance of our commitment to responsible and sustainable production while complementing our existing Sustana line of aluminum products,” Alcoa President and CEO Roy Harvey said. “Today’s announcement aligns with our strategic priority to advance sustainably and it serves as another reinforcement of our strong reputation and industry leadership.”
Alcoa produces bauxite, alumina, and aluminum products. The company has 10 locations on four continents certified under ASI’s standards, and several other locations are currently undergoing the review process.
To date, three aluminum smelters and casthouses in Europe and North America, three bauxite mines in Brazil and Western Australia, and four alumina refineries in Brazil and Western Australia have earned certifications.
The Mosjøen facility in Norway has earned the Performance Standard certification.
The Sustana line includes Ecodura billet cast, with at least 50 percent recycled content in various alloys and sizes, and Ecolum, with less than 2.5 metric tons of carbon per metric ton of aluminum.
