84 Lumber opens plant in New Britain

84 Lumber recently opened a dedicated components plant in New Britain, which will allow the company to take advantage of the increasing demand for engineered and manufactured wood products throughout the Philadelphia, Delaware and New Jersey areas

“Our strategic plan to convert our existing facility into a components plant is right in sync with our overall goal of becoming the preferred supplier for everything a builder needs in this region – and all the regions we serve,” Steve Benko, 84 Lumber Mid-Atlantic divisional components area manager, said. “We see the growth opportunity of a components plant in New Britain, so we’re extremely excited to open our doors and expand our relationships with area builders.”

The New Britain facility is a converted 50-year-old 84 Lumber store and will manufacture wall panels, roof trusses, and floor trusses. It is fully automated and includes computerized saws and laser projection equipment, and the latest design software.

84 Lumber plans to hire 20 employees by spring, but the facility will eventually employ 45 people.

The company plans to expand westward and to create components facilities in several new 84 Lumber stores.

The facility brings 84 Lumber’s components plants to nine. Two more, one in Ohio and one in Virginia, will open later this year.
