The Manufacturing PA initiative recently approved the Greater Johnstown Career & Technology Center (GJCTC) for $200,000 in funding for phase two of its workforce teaching model.

The model, Learn Where You Will Earn, helps students supplement classroom learning with skills obtained in a business setting.

The funding will allow GJCTC to hold three more class sessions through the end of next year. The center also will provide financial assistance to students, fund recruitment efforts, and purchase equipment to use as a teaching tool.

“GJCTC is excited to be included in this important initiative for our region for a second time. Phase two of Learn Where You Will Earn will allow the school to maintain a presence in Bedford County and continue to build on the successes of the past two years,” Tricia Rummel, GJCTC supervisor of adult education, said. “The continued funding will allow GJCTC to offer training programs that will not only benefit individuals seeking to improve their skills and find employment, but the local businesses and community as a whole will also benefit.”

The model launched in 2018 at GJCTC’s satellite campus.

During phase one, 20 students received an American Welding Society certification, and 16 students were offered employment in the welding field.
