GIANT Food Stores recently announced it will invest $114 million in Pennsylvania over the next 18 months.

“We’re doubling down on growth and innovation for our customers, building on the incredible momentum of 2019, and continuing to invest in our great Commonwealth,” Nicholas Bertram, GIANT Food Stores president, said. “The accelerated growth of GIANT DIRECT has set the stage for additional investment opportunities that extend our ecommerce geographic reach. At the same time, our GIANT Heirloom Market format has enabled us to reach an entirely new demographic in Philadelphia.”

The company’s investment involves:

GIANT will bolster its ecommerce brand, GIANT DIRECT, by building a 124,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Philadelphia. The facility will allow for better distribution and serve an increasing number of customers who want to order online. GIANT will partner with Peapod Digital Labs to develop the facility.

GIANT will open a new 52,000-square-foot store in the Harrisburg market in Swatara Township later this year. Construction will begin in the first quarter.

A 66,000-square-foot store will be built in Pocono Summit and is expected to open next year.

A total of 35 stores throughout the state will be remodeled and will include modernized décor, improved merchandise displays, streamlined order pickup, and optimized product assortment.
