Gov. Wolf announces new funding for heat, frost insulation apprenticeships in Philadelphia

Gov. Tom Wolf recently announced the approval of new apprenticeship funding for the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers (IAHFIAW) JAC Local Unit 14 in Philadelphia.

“It is critical that we invest in the future of Pennsylvania’s workforce by helping industries and organizations bring on, train, and grow new talent,” Gov. Wolf said. “Since taking office, my administration has been committed to supporting the training and development opportunities that will shape the future of workplaces across the commonwealth.”

The $49,500 grant will support recruitment methods, including job fairs in the community, at local schools, and at the IAHFIAW JAC (LU14) Training Center. The program aims to recruit and train apprentices in mechanical insulation, firestopping, and asbestos abatement.

The training center has trained registered apprentices since 1969, with 85 percent of apprentices completing the program and 100 percent of those apprentices being placed in careers. A joint committee consisting of representatives from the Contractors Association and the Local Union 14 oversees the center.

The statewide Pre-Apprentice and Apprenticeship Grant Program offers assistance to registered apprenticeship programs to increase apprenticeship availability and assist Pennsylvania employers with their talent recruitment and development. Apprenticeships play a crucial role in Wolf’s PAsmart initiative.
