Potter County commissioners adopt comprehensive policy plan

Potter County Commissioners Doug Morley, Susan Kefover, and Paul Heimel recently adopted the Potter County Comprehensive Plan, which sets priorities across a range of policy areas for the county over the next decade.

Potter County joined forces with McKean and Cameron counties to contract with consultants, using a combination of state and county funding. The plan provides a unified strategy for the three counties as well as county-specific initiatives.

The plan is the result of an 18-month process and covers a variety of public policy areas, including economic development, agriculture, tourism, and healthcare. A focus of the plan is addressing the declining population and steady increases in median age in the region.

Consultants from the Michael Baker International firm developed a draft of the plan and posted it online for public input. The plan, which is mandated by the state and must be updated every 10 years, is now available on Potter County’s website. Potter County Planning Director Will Hunt noted that he would create an online service to share details as the plan is implemented.
