The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners recently approved a $311.6 million county budget for 2020, which includes $92.2 million for the general fund.
There is no tax increase for the sixth consecutive year and no increase to the general fund’s real estate rate. Library millage remains at 0.166 mills and real estate millage at 2.195 mills.
The real estate tax is the lowest county property tax in the region.
During 2020, the county plans to find ways to lower its operational costs, modernize the delivery of services, and provide efficient and cost-effective services to the public. These services include criminal justice, community and environmental planning, courts, human services, and public safety.
The county will continue to monitor costs, pressures and demonstrate fiscal accountability to the taxpayers to achieve cost savings.
Cumberland County residents spend less of their earned income on county services than residents in the surrounding counties.
Since 2008, the county has maintained a AAA bond rating that is attributed to a strategic approach to balancing costs and revenues, and strong financial management.
The commissioners have been working with various county departments to find methods to slow the growth of short and long-term costs without sacrificing services county residents enjoy.
