Build Together recently hosted a press conference in Bensalem, Pa., as the first stop on a nationwide listening tour intended to build grassroots support for federal infrastructure investments.

Speakers covered multiple topics, including a need for federal mass transit investments, rebuilding roads and bridges, investing in local airports and ports, bolstering high-speed rail, increasing flood resilience, modernizing schools and the electrical grid, and improving local drinking water systems and wastewater treatment.

The press conference was held at the rail station abutting I-95 and the Delaware River, and U.S. Reps. Brendan F. Boyle (D-PA) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) called for bipartisan passage of a comprehensive federal infrastructure package.

“There is bipartisan agreement that our infrastructure is critical to our economy,” Boyle said. “Far too many steelworkers and other building trades in my district face layoffs due to low demand from the transportation and infrastructure sector. I am proud to fight for them in Congress, and to fight for legislation to boost demand for quality steel, iron, and other materials made here at home by American workers.”

In Pennsylvania, 91 percent of voters support a robust federal infrastructure plan, according to research conducted on behalf of Build America, with 55 percent strongly supporting.
