PennDOT, FTA celebrate opening of Mount Joy Train Station

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Monday for the Mount Joy Train Station along the Keystone Line in Mount Joy.

The ceremony was attended by state and local officials, including Terry Garcia Crews, Federal Transit Administration region 3 administrator; Yassmin Gramian, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation executive deputy secretary; and Jennie Granger, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Deputy secretary for multimodal transportation.

Mount Joy station was a set of stairs leading down to the tracks before revitalization. The $33 million project constructed high-level platforms with canopies, pedestrian overpasses between each tower, an elevator and stair towers, a covered walkway, and a long-term parking lot.

Other improvements included Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility, lighting leading down to each platform, landscaping, and 69 parking spaces along East and West Henry Street parallel to the train tracks.

“The Mount Joy station not only helps move passengers along the Keystone Line but is also a gateway to the local community,” Gramian said. “Its improvements will create more efficient transportation and improved customer service throughout the Keystone Corridor.”

The purpose of the revitalization was to provide equal access to public transportation and a safe and seamless connection for all passengers.

In the 2017-18 fiscal year, nearly 400 million trips were taken on transit.
