Associated Builders and Contractors recently named Mowery, a construction company based in Mechanicsburg, Pa., a Platinum Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) Safety Award recipient for the second consecutive year.
“At Mowery, safety is not optional, and our goal is to send our team members home safely every night,” David Cross, president and owner of Mowery, said. “STEP allows us to evaluate our safety processes, implement best practices, track our performance, and ultimately, keep our team safe. We are proud to be recognized for our commitment to job site safety and hope to maintain this status for years to come.”
To receive the Platinum STEP Safety Award, Mowery’s total recordable incident rate (TRIR) had to be 25 percent below the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code average, and the company’s experience modification rate (EMR) had to be 0.8. STEP Platinum members are approximately 300 percent safer than the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics industry average.
The Associated Builders and Contractor’s STEP system is a safety management system for commercial and industrial contractors and suppliers. Participating companies measure their safety processes and policies through a detailed questionnaire and document their incident rates to help reduce accidents and injuries in the field.
