The House Majority Policy Committee will hold a public hearing Friday to discuss ways to attract major businesses to southeastern Pennsylvania.

The main topic will be the challenges to attract businesses and industry to the region and how to resolve these issues.

Scheduled speakers include John Alwine, client management director of Unisys Corp.; Matt Cabrey, executive director of Select Greater Philadelphia; John Grady, Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation president; and David Taylor, Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association president and CEO.

The hearing will be held at Philadelphia City Hall and also will be streamed live.

The House Majority Policy Committee works with the other committees to advance policies. Rep. Donna Oberlander (R-Clarion/Armstrong/Forest) is chairwoman.

The House Democratic Policy Committee held a joint hearing with the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus Tuesday at the Universal Institute Charter School in Philadelphia.

The purpose of the hearing is to allow youth to express their views on the criminal justice system.

Speakers include Philadelphia Community Youth Court members; Roi Ligon Jr., a safe schools Advocate with the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency; and Jeffrey Williams, the school’s principal.

The hearing is part of House Democrats’ Plan4PA. The plan focuses on creating quality schools, providing training for jobs, growing good jobs, and providing health care access.
