House Majority Leader Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster County) recently appointed Lisa Graybeal and Doug Harbach to the Pennsylvania Dairy Future Commission.
The commission was created in a package of bills designed to support the state’s agriculture industry that became law in July.
The commission will review the state’s dairy industry and make recommendations about its future. It will submit a report to the legislature within a year that includes issues facing the industry, government impacts in the industry, processing production and marketing, and any other issues identified by the commission.
“The dairy industry is a crucial piece of the culture, economy, and history of central Pennsylvania,” Cutler said. “Adding the knowledge, experience, and passion for the industry that both Lisa and Doug have will be a major benefit to the commission and the state.”
Graybeal and her brother operate a dairy farm in Lancaster County. Harbach is dairy operations manager at his family’s dairy farm in Clinton County.
Other commission members include Russell C. Redding, secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture; Mary Kandray Gelesner from the Center for Rural Pennsylvania; Carol Hardbarger from the Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board; and state Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski (D- Wilkes-Barre), Agriculture and Rural Affairs minority chairman.
