Amazon to open fulfillment center in Allegheny County

Amazon.com, Inc. announced Tuesday plans to open a non-sortable fulfillment center in Allegheny County, which will create more than 800 full-time jobs.

“Pennsylvania is a great state for business, and Amazon is excited to continue its growth and investment with our newest fulfillment center in Allegheny County,” Alicia Boler Davis, vice president of global customer fulfillment at Amazon, said.

At the new 1,000,000-square-foot distribution facility, Amazon employees will pick, pack, and ship larger customer items. Amazon has committed to investing more than $30 million into the project. Hillwood Group and Chapman Properties will construct the facility.

“It’s a great win any time a business comes in and pledges to create 800 new jobs,” Gov. Tom Wolf said. “This is a significant investment for Pennsylvania, and I applaud Amazon for selecting our commonwealth as the location for this facility.”

Amazon received a funding proposal for the project from the Department of Community and Economic Development for $1.6 million in Job Creation Tax Credits to be distributed after the creation of new jobs. The Governor’s Action Team coordinated the project with additional coordination through the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance and Allegheny County.

“I applaud and welcome Amazon’s significant investment in Findlay Township, which will build on our region’s strong economic foundation by bringing 800 well-paid jobs to Allegheny County,” Sen. Pam Iovino (D-Allegheny) said. “And I commend Findlay Township on their efforts to make the Township more attractive to companies and job creation by investing in their infrastructure. I also appreciate Governor Tom Wolf, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, and the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance for their part in securing this win.”

The new fulfillment center will be Amazon’s 15th Pennsylvanian operations facility. The company currently employs nearly 10,000 full-time employees across Pennsylvania.
