Pittsburgh-based food retailer Giant Eagle recently partnered with Grabango to provide a no-wait checkout experience.
Grabango’s checkout-free technology works by utilizing computer vision and machine learning to track items shopped and keep a running total of the items. There are no memberships or turnstiles, and data is anonymous to protect customer privacy.
The platform will be pilot tested at one Giant Eagle location. The retailer and Grabango will offer customers the ability to pay with any tender they choose and to use an app-based solution.
The technology is seamless and equitable for all, Will Glaser, Grabango CEO, said.
Waiting in the checkout line is the top complaint among U.S. grocery shoppers, according to a Forrester Research study.
Giant Eagle hopes Grabango’s checkout-free technology will be a remedy to this complaint.
“Giant Eagle is committed to advancing technologies that create an improved, stress-free shopping experience for our customers while still protecting their privacy,” Dan Donovan Giant Eagle director of corporate communications, said. “In Grabango, we have found a partner who shares our commitment and who can help us bring this enhanced experience to life.”
Giant Eagle has committed to strengthening its investment in the latest technologies that will enhance customers’ shopping experience.
