Tyber Medical to expand in Northampton County

Orthopedic device manufacturer Tyber Medical plans to expand its manufacturing operation in Hanover Township, Northampton County.

The company will renovate a 35,000 square-foot building adjacent to its current facility. It will invest $3.8 million for the renovation, job training, and the purchase of new equipment.

Expansion is forecasted to create 44 full-time jobs over the next three years.

“We are excited to have the continued support of Governor (Tom) Wolf and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to expand our headquarters to accommodate the company’s rapid growth and future plans,” Jeff Tyber, Tyber Medical president and CEO, said. “Our focus to excellence within the orthopedic device industry has yielded extraordinary growth that we are meeting by attracting talent throughout the Lehigh Valley area.”

The Department of Community and Economic Development submitted a funding proposal for the project that included $37,400 to assist with workforce training, a $100,000 Pennsylvania First grant and $132,000 in job-creation tax credits to be applied after the creation of the new jobs.

The department also encouraged Tyber Medical to apply for a $400,000 low-interest loan through the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority.

The Governor’s Action Team, a group of economic development professionals that works with businesses considering relocating or expanding, coordinated the project.
