Cardbox Packaging, a European-based packaging product company, has selected Pittston Township in Luzerne County for its first U.S. manufacturing facility.
The company plans to invest at least $5.3 million in the 27,500-square-foot facility located in the CenterPoint Commerce & Trade Park West Industrial Park. Over the next three years, 35 full-time jobs are expected to be created.
“Cardbox Packaging is very excited about landing in Pennsylvania and taking the first steps in establishing our presence in the U.S. packaging market,” Michael Schaid, Cardbox Packaging general manager, said. “We look forward to expanding our U.S. relationships which will result in Cardbox being able to produce innovative products. We appreciate the Governor’s Action Team guidance and support through this process.”
The company manufactures paper and carton-based packaging products for the cosmetic, food, and medical industries. It uses flatbed die-cutting, folding gluing, and offset printing.
Cardbox will receive $70,000 in job creation tax credits after the new positions are created. The company also will receive a $15,300 workforce development grant to train employees and has received a $75,000 Pennsylvania First grant funding proposal from the Department of Community and Economic Development.
The company also has locations in Austria and the Czech Republic.
