Walmart said recently that it expects to spend an estimated $83 million this year in Pennsylvania on the remodeling of 15 stores as well as the launch and expansion of several “customer-focused innovations.”
“Pennsylvania Walmart stores continue to evolve to best meet the preferences of our valued customers and the more than 53,000 associates who serve as the heart of our efforts to exceed customer expectations,” Walmart Regional Manager for Pennsylvania Ann-Louise Almeida said.
The innovations that Walmart plans to invest in include an expansion of its grocery pickup option and its grocery delivery option. Walmart also plans to add 23 Pickup Towers to stores in Pennsylvania, 16-feet tall high-tech vending machines that can fulfill customers’ online orders.
“Combined with skills-based training support for associates, including the use of virtual reality to simulate real-world scenarios, Walmart is redefining the retail experience for all Pennsylvania customers and creating a one-of-a-kind shopping experience that helps our customers live better by providing unmatched value and industry-leading convenience,” Almeida said.
Walmart also plans to expand its FAST unloader system, which automatically scans and sorts items that come off trucks based on priority and department, to 45 stores across the state. It will also expand its autonomous floor scrubbers to 41 Pennsylvania stores.
