Miller Fabrication Solutions to receive manufacturing leadership award for internal Weld Program

Miller Fabrication Solutions announced this week that the National Association of Manufacturers’ (NAM) Manufacturing Leadership (ML) Council has recognized the company with a Manufacturing Leadership Award in Talent Management Leadership for its internal Weld Program.

Miller, based in Brookeville, Penn., is a strategic metal fabrication partner for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in construction, mining, material handling and conveying and other heavy equipment industries. The company launched its Weld Program in October. The program gives non-welder employees training in Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding while they work in their existing full-time role. Upon completion of the program, which typically takes four weeks, the employees can advance to a welding position at the company.

“Our internal Weld Program was designed with our organizational purpose in mind,” said Miller’s Manufacturing Director Casey Belfiore, who oversaw the creation of the program. “Which is, to improve the lives of our employees and community. This program contributes to that purpose by building upon the skillsets of our existing employees as well as satisfying our increased need for quality welders.”

Five Miller foreman manage the program, which accepts three students at a time. Since the program began, 89 percent of employees who completed it have moved into weld roles at Miller. The program currently has 12 potential students on its wait list.

NAM will recognize Miller at the 15th Annual Manufacturing Leadership Awards Gala, which will be held on the last day of the Manufacturing Leadership Summit in June in Huntington Beach, Calif.
