Gov. Tom Wolf recently announced that Lackawanna College will receive a $154,555 grant through the Manufacturing PA initiative to support its Core Manufacturing Skills Certificate Program.
“Creating pathways from job training to career is critical for our manufacturing industry and our economy,” Wolf said. “My administration will continue supporting programs like the Core Manufacturing Skills Certificate Program to provide the resources we need to grow and enhance the competitiveness of the commonwealth into the 21st century.”
Lackawanna College partnered with several workforce development organizations and a consortium of manufacturers to create the Regional Accelerated Training Advisory Board (RATAB) and offer the Core Manufacturing Skills Certificate Program.
The program will provide workers with the skills needed for entry-level positions in advanced manufacturing through classroom, simulation-based and online skill building lessons. Participants will also receive training in interview skills and assistance with employment placement.
The program will consist of two cohorts of 15 members. The first cohort will complete the program at the Lackawanna College Scranton Campus in summer 2019. The second session will service the Northern Tier and will take place at Lackawanna College’s Towanda Center in 2020.
“This program is the result of a year-long collaboration with local workforce development boards and key industry partners, including the Northeastern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center (NEPIRC), to prepare individuals for careers in advanced manufacturing,” Lackawanna College President Mark Volk said. “We thank Governor Wolf for his support in our efforts to strengthen our workforce and our manufacturing industry.”
The grant is a Training-to-Career grant offered as part of the Manufacturing PA initiative, which was launched in October 2017.
