The Robert Morris University School of Engineering, Mathematics and Science held a grand opening and ribbon cutting for its 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing Laboratory Feb. 6.
The 200,000-square-foot lab, located at the university’s Energy Innovation Center, will house education, job training and research programs. The building contains sustainable energy practices and technologies and is LEED Platinum certified.
The university will begin offering a six-course certificate program in manufacturing engineering later this month at the lab. The certificate’s 18 credits can be applied toward a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
A free, 42-hour job training program called Empowering Pennsylvania’s Workforce for Employment in Manufacturing also is planned. The program is funded through a Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development grant.
“We are gratified to be able to bring our manufacturing and engineering expertise to the Energy Innovation Center and to expand on RMU’s work in meeting the needs of the Pittsburgh region’s workforce,” Maria Kalevitch, dean of the School of Engineering, Mathematics and Science, said.
The school is celebrating its 20th anniversary and has approximately 900 students across 16 degree programs. Robert Morris is the only university in the state to offer an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology-accredited bachelor’s program in manufacturing engineering.
