PS Technology (PST) recently gave Penn State Altoona a $104,000 12-month equipment lease as an in-kind gift for its Rail Transportation Engineering (RTE) program.
The equipment lease has an opportunity to renew.
The equipment is a Positive Train Control (PTC) Prime Simulator. It will be used in the RTE program’s “Teaching Railway Applications through Immersive learning and Network Simulation” (TRAINS) laboratory. It will allow students to understand Federal Railroad Administration requirements, how the systems are designed and the real-world implications of PTC utilization.
PST technology, including crew management and timekeeping solutions, is used on North America’s largest railroads, supporting rail operations across more than 120,000 miles of rail and managing more than 100,000 employees.
The simulator automatically instructs, scores and records the training results of each student. It includes interactive locomotive simulations and self-guided training.
“We’ve found Penn State Altoona’s program to be just what the rail industry needs as it heads into the future,” PST President Seenu Chundru said. “We are encouraged by Penn State Altoona’s commitment to excellence in this area and wanted to help provide a premium experience for students in the program.”
The simulator is powered by web-based software developed by PST. The software is used by multiple North American railroads.
