GIANT Food Stores announced Wednesday plans to open three new GIANT Heirloom Market stores in Philadelphia during 2019.
GIANT will open the stores in the Philadelphia neighborhoods of University City, Northern Liberties, and Queen Village.
“GIANT Heirloom Market is the next chapter in our innovative growth story. The response to our first location in Graduate Hospital has exceeded our expectations and we couldn’t be more excited about the future of our GIANT Heirloom Market brand,” Nicholas Bertram, president of GIANT Food Stores, said. “Equally as important, today’s news also supports GIANT’s commitment to the city of Philadelphia and the people who call it home. We can’t wait to introduce our GIANT Heirloom Market concept to more of the city’s unique and treasured neighborhoods.”
The company opened the first GIANT Heirloom Market location in January in the Graduate Hospital area of Philadelphia. With the opening of the three new locations, GIANT will operate five stores within the city limits, including one GIANT on Grant Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia that opened in 2011.
The three new stores are expected to bring approximately 150 full- and part-time jobs to surrounding communities.
GIANT Heirloom Market stores occupy a smaller footprint than a traditional GIANT store. They feature selections curated for the neighborhoods they serve, including items from local food purveyors.
The first of the three stores will open this summer in University City. The Northern Liberties stores will open in the fall. The Queen Village location will open by the end of 2019.
