Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) appointed Wednesday Rep. Mark Keller (R-Perry/Cumberland) as majority chairman for the 2019-2020 session of the House Commerce Committee.

“I am pleased to be named to lead this important committee, which focuses on business, finance and economic development here in Pennsylvania,” Keller said. “The Commerce Committee also works on issues affecting consumers, ranging from complaints related to loans and credit cards to problems with cemeteries.”

Keller, who was sworn into office for an eighth term this week, also was appointed vice-chairman of the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee.

He previously served as chairman of the House Urban Affairs Committee during the 2017-18 session.

The House Commerce Committee prepares various areas of legislation for the full House to consider.

Concentrated legislative efforts include Business Corporation Law; economic and technical development administered through various programs; offers of sale and credit through laws such as the Unfair Sales Act, the Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Act and the Goods and Services Installment Sales Act; and the regulation of institutions chartered in Pennsylvania through various acts and codes include the Credit Union Law, the Mortgage Bankers and Brokers Act, the Consumer Discount Company Act, and the Pennsylvania Securities Act.
