Morgan Advanced Materials and Technologies, Inc. (Morgan), a materials company specializing in carbon and silicon carbide manufacturing, will invest at least $1.6 million in an expansion project and create 41 new jobs at its facilities in Elk and Potter counties.
“This expansion will enable Morgan to grow and create jobs right here in the commonwealth, which is great news for workers,” Gov. Tom Wolf said. “We’re also proud to support a project that will enable the materials used for protecting our military and law enforcement to be made in Pennsylvania.”
Demand for the ballistic armor systems supported by Morgan’s material technology and used by military and law enforcement is growing. Morgan requires new equipment and furnace technology to increase production to meet this demand. In addition to the 41 new jobs created, the expansion will retain the 441 existing jobs at the company’s facilities in Coudersport and St. Marys in Pennsylvania.
The Department of Community and Economic Development provided Morgan with a funding proposal for a $100,000 Pennsylvania First grant and $82,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits (JCTC), which will be distributed upon the creation of new jobs. The Governor’s Action Team, a group of economic development professionals who work with businesses considering expanding or locating in Pennsylvania, coordinated the project.
“At Morgan Advanced Materials we use advanced materials to help make more efficient use of the world’s resources, and to improve the quality of life,” Joseph Boylan, strategic marketing director at Morgan, said. “We are delighted that we have received this support from the Governor’s Action Team to increase capacity at our production facility. This investment will help generate further employment in our community and leverages our leading materials technology, ultimately helping us to protect our soldiers’ lives.”
