The state’s Department of Community and Economic Development recently granted nearly $2 million in tax credits to more than 20 community redevelopment projects in the Erie region, state Reps. Patrick Harkins (D-Erie), Ryan Bizzarro (D-Erie), and Rep.-elect Robert Merski (D-Erie) announced this week.
The tax credits have been awarded to projects that address neighborhood and community problems as well as projects that support and leverage private investment in communities. Community issues include long-term community revitalization, crime prevention education, affordable housing, job training, and veteran’s initiatives.
“These tax credits will further encourage businesses and programs to continue to invest in our region,” Bizzarro said. “I am excited to see the state continue to support the good work that has already been done to revitalize and reinvigorate the greater Erie community.”
Erie’s projects are among 136 selected statewide and include a wide range of programs.
Tax credits ranged from $5,500 to $280,000.
The largest credit was awarded to the Bayfront East Side Taskforce of Erie County. The task force aims to improve the Bayfront neighborhood to create a positive neighborhood image and to promote a viable real estate market.
The project has 10 segments including maintaining safe and affordable rental units and establishing a home-repair fund.
