Comcast recently announced that it is now the largest provider of gigabit broadband in the United States, noting that the service is available to more than 98 percent of Comcast internet serviceable households in the Harrisburg market, which includes Cumberland County.
Xfinity Gigabit Internet service is available to 100 percent of customers in Cumberland County, the company said.
“We are proud to continue investing in our network, which is built to provide the speed, reliability, and capacity to meet today’s consumer demands as well as future demand,” Christine Whitaker, senior vice president of Comcast’s Keystone Region, said. “By launching gigabit internet to virtually all our customers in the Harrisburg region over the span of just 12 months, we are providing them with the speed, coverage, and control they need.”
Comcast also said that Xfinity Gigabit Internet and Comcast Business Gigabit services are now available to nearly all of the company’s 58 million internet serviceable homes and businesses in 39 states and the District of Columbia.
The company’s residential Xfinity Gigabit internet service uses the existing network connections that are typically already in customers’ homes. In many cases, customers do not require a service visit to upgrade to Xfinity Gigabit, as the broadband equipment comes with a self-installation kit.
