The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners recently voted to place the $284.2 million proposed 2019 county budget, which does not include a tax increase, on view.
The commission has welcomed public input on the proposed budget, which is on view this week at the Cumberland County Commissioners Office and online.
The General Fund is $87.7 million of the total county budget. The proposed budget includes no increase in the county’s General Fund real estate rate nor the county library tax. Funding for Farmland Preservation and the Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation (CAEDC) military preservation effort and workforce initiative continues at the 2018 level.
“The county continues to pursue opportunities to lower its operational costs, where possible, and to modernize its delivery of services,” the board of commissioners wrote in a press release. “Throughout 2019, the county will continue to monitor costs, pressures and demonstrate fiscal accountability to the taxpayers, while providing efficient and cost-effective services to the public.”
The board noted that Cumberland County is the fastest growing county in the commonwealth and has one of the lowest tax rates and unemployment numbers in the South Central Pennsylvania region.
The commissioners are scheduled to adopt the 2019 budget on Dec. 3.
