Education, wastewater, content insurance bills signed into law

Rep. Alex Charlton (R-Delaware), Rep. Chris Quinn (R-Delaware) and Sen. Tom McGarrigle (R-Delaware/Chester) recently thanked Gov. Tom Wolf for signing into law fours bills backed by the three legislators.

“This shows what can be done when we stick together,” Charlton said. “By working together and securing the votes needed in each chamber, we were able to get four important bills through the General Assembly and onto the governor’s desk.”

House Bill 2075, now Act 120 of 2018, allows regulated water and wastewater utilities to replace water laterals in communities that have lead distribution pipes coming into their homes and sewer laterals that pose environmental hazards.

House Bill 504, now Act 97 of 2018, allows self-storage proprietors to sell content insurance, which would cover the loss or damage of items put into storage by the individual renter.

Senate Bill 1095, now Act 158 of 2018, reduces the focus on standardized testing and provides additional options for fulfilling high school graduation requirements beyond the Keystone Exams.

House Bill 2124, now Act 121 of 2018, requires institutions of higher education to send annual letters to students with information on their student loan debt, including estimates of their total debt at graduation and estimated monthly payments.

“As representatives who speak with one voice we can make significant change to benefit our communities and our state,” Quinn said.
