Penn State DuBois recently held a Manufacturing Day event at which nearly 200 students learned about careers in the manufacturing sector.
Participants had the opportunity to talk to industry representatives, take parts in a hands-on project related to engineering in manufacturing and learn about engineering degree programs offered at Penn State DuBois. Ten local manufacturing companies were represented at the event.
“We do this to raise awareness of the great opportunities there are in manufacturing jobs in our area,” Sueann Doran, from the campus Community and Continuing Education Department, which hosted the event, said. “This gives students the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the manufacturers in the area and the benefits of those careers.”
Students came from Brockway, Brookville, Jeff Tech, Moshannon Valley, Lenape Technical School, Punxsutawney, Clearfield, and home schools.
“I think we all look for meaning and purpose for what we do on a day-to-day basis,” Brian Lytle, a technology teacher at Clearfield Area High School, said. “So, when you get into an environment like this and see what’s there, you can see where your day-to-day actions will lead you in the future.”
Manufacturing Day is a national event supported by a group of industry sponsors and co-producers. More than 2,000 events were held this year across the country.
