Cranberry Township in Butler County recently received approval for a $2,875,000 grant to assist with a transportation infrastructure project that will connect the Cranberry Springs development and the Cranberry Woods Business Park.

The $14.9 million MSA Thruway project is expected to support the creation of more than 2,300 permanent full-time jobs and more than 4,000 temporary construction jobs, facilitate further development in the area and reduce traffic congestion in the area.

“Cranberry Township is seeing enormous growth due to the Cranberry Springs development and other community and economic development projects in the area,” Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Dennis Davin said. “In order to accommodate this growth and the future development of the area, we need to make sure the township has the necessary transportation infrastructure in place to be able to handle the additional vehicle and pedestrian traffic. This project will provide a massive boost to future economic development and job creation in the region.”

The project includes the construction of a 150-foot underpass and will provide a means of access to the development and business park for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles.

The Transportation Infrastructure Investment Funds (TIIF) program, which is administered in cooperation with DCED and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), is providing funding for the project.

“On behalf of Governor Wolf, we at PennDOT are delighted to assist with this critical multimodal project for the MSA Thruway,” PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards said. “This investment will improve access to the developments on either side of Route 228. I am especially pleased with the accommodations for bicyclists and pedestrians as this fits my goal of delivering better transportation across the modes.”
