Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) Secretary Jerry Oleksiak recently met with leaders of API Technologies Corp. (API) and the PA CareerLink Centre County to discuss the Wolf Administration’s job training and career readiness initiatives.

API, which designs and manufactures high-performance systems, subsystems, modules and components for radio frequency, microwave, millimeter wave, electromagnetic, power and security applications, has participated in on-the-job training programs through the PA CareerLink Centre County.

“Businesses like API Technologies Corp. that are growing and expanding in Pennsylvania need access to a well-skilled workforce,” Oleksiak said. “It’s great to hear that job placement services provided through PA CareerLink Centre County are helping API meet their employment needs while providing local job seekers with good, middle-class jobs.”

Gov. Wolf’s PASmart initiative aims to develop and expand innovative job training in STEM. PA CareerLink and the Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corporation (CPWDC) offer tools such as free job postings via Job Gateway as well as funding assistance for internships and on-the-job training. CPWDC also convened the Central PA Next Generation Manufacturing Partnership, which supports collaboration between Central PA manufacturing companies.

“It’s exciting when we get to partner with companies like API and help them grow their talent through the PA CareerLink on-the-job training program, and the SLIP summer internship program,” CPWDC Executive Director Erica Mulberger said. “The partnership is a win-win for API, jobseekers, and the local workforce network because API shares what their workforce needs are to be competitive in the 21st century and the PA CareerLink is able to use that feedback to implement the new workforce development proposal to improve coordination and services across commonwealth agencies and to promote robust engagement with employers.”
