United States Steel Corp. (U.S. Steel) recently published its first Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) Report.
The report highlights progress and ongoing commitment to support a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace. It also includes the company’s DE&I initiatives.
“We’ve made important, measurable progress in our Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion strategy execution consistent with our core values associated with safety, trust and respect,” Barry Melnkovic, U. S. Steel senior vice president and chief human resources officer, said. “We can — and will — continue to do more and be better because our work in this critical area is not done. We have developed a multi-year approach to DE&I to guide us into the future, and this report is part of our journey to foster a true ‘Culture of Caring’ with workplaces that work for all employees.”
Progress the company made includes:
Creating two new employee benefit programs to give parents and caregivers flexibility during the pandemic.
Encouraging female, veteran, and early career professional candidates to share their resume and network, regarding opportunities and upcoming events.
Benchmarking its disability inclusion program.
Conducting unconscious bias training for hiring managers.
Creating a software suite to proactively benchmark and monitor the diversity of applicants and forecast equity of hiring, promotion, and attrition while ensuring pay equity.
