The state House adopted a resolution recently that designates Oct. 4-10 as Love Your Avenue Week in an effort to raise awareness about community revitalization.

“Love Your Avenue Week enforces a sense of pride among residents in their communities,” said state Rep. Donna Bullock (D-Philadelphia), who introduced the resolution. “It’s especially notable in the 195th Legislative District, where we have a huge celebration along Girard Avenue. However, the pandemic has put a damper on many of these plans, ultimately coming as a blow to the strength of countless business corridors. The adoption of my resolution not only serves as an ongoing reminder as to how critical these central local businesses are but also raises awareness to how dire community support is during these times.”

The Pennsylvania Downtown Center, a statewide nonprofit dedicated solely to the revitalization of the state’s communities, is among the resolution’s proponents, Bullock said.

The center helps communities revitalize central business districts and surrounding residential neighborhoods and provides outreach, technical assistance, and educational services.

The House adopted the resolution unanimously.

Communities statewide will hold sidewalk sales, festivals, parades, corridor cleanups, and other initiatives throughout the year to mark the occasion, Bullock said.
