Pittsburgh-based PPG, a paints, coatings and specialty products manufacturer, recently announced plans that it is investing $70 million to expand its aerospace transparencies manufacturing facility in Huntsville, Ala.

PPG’s aerospace business supplies commercial, regional, general aviation and military customers worldwide with coatings, engineered materials, sealants, transparencies, and related services.

The Huntsville facility has been in operation for more than 55 years. PPG plans to lease and build-out a 112,000-square-foot facility to house production support functions. This will free up manufacturing space at the existing aerospace transparencies facility.

Expansion is part of a series of multi-year projects that support ongoing efforts to increase production capacity and grow the aerospace transparencies business. The Huntsville investment will allow the company to meet the growing customer demand for aircraft cockpit windows and passenger windows and position the site for future growth.

“Demand for aerospace transparencies continues to grow across commercial, military and general aviation markets,” Francois Buehlmann, PPG general manager, aerospace global transparencies, said. “This expansion increases our operational efficiency, provides room for future equipment investments and reinforces our long-term commitment to serving customers and investing in Huntsville.”

PPG is looking forward to growing alongside Huntsville’s aerospace network, Buehlmann said.

PPG reported net sales of $15.9 billion last year.
